Alicia Keefe, MEd
Education & Technology Outreach Manager
As Education and Technology Outreach Manager, Alicia is responsible for all of Facing the Future’s outreach using technology, including our website, our social networks (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), our e-newsletter that goes out to nearly 40,000 educators, online surveys in which we evaluate the efficacy of our work, electronic marketing, and product launches. She has also developed an online database of classroom examples that shows how educators are using Facing the Future resources in their classrooms.
Alicia has experience in global issues and education, having co-founded a student organization (LEAP) at the University of Cincinnati that develops on-campus and community-based environmental events and volunteer opportunities. The organization received the University of Cincinnati’s award for Student Group of the Year as well as several other community awards. Most recently she developed a tool for parents and their children to use within informal learning institutions in order to increase science literacy and discourse.
Outside of work, Alicia volunteers with Just Garden Project and Green Seattle Partnership as a Tree Ambassador.
Teaching Experience
Alicia spent a year instructing students at IslandWood, an environmental education center and graduate residency program on Bainbridge Island, WA, while participating in the AmeriCorps Students in Service program. While teaching at IslandWood she used Facing the Future curriculum and created a website on water quality testing for students. She also has several years of experience tutoring and developing curriculum.
Global Perspective
Alicia feels passionately about engaging children and adults in lifelong learning, stewardship, and active citizenship by encouraging them to think about themselves in the context of a global community. Alicia is proficient in Spanish and basic Italian.
Education
Alicia has an MEd from the College of Education at the University of Washington where she focused on sustainability education and science literacy in free-choice learning institutions. She also has a BS in Environmental Studies from the University of Cincinnati and a certificate of Education, Environment, and Community from IslandWood.
