Sheeba Jacob, MEd
Curriculum Development Director

As Curriculum Development Director, Sheeba is in charge of developing curriculum resources at Facing the Future.

Sheeba has co-authored a number of curriculum resources, including:

During her time at Facing the Future, Sheeba has presented at several educator conferences, including the KIPP Charter School National Summit, the International Studies Schools Association conference (ISSA), and the Washington Association for Bilingual Education conference (WABE).

Sheeba has wide experience in curriculum and instruction for diverse audiences. She was a bilingual service provider representative for D.C. public schools. While a student in Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, she co-led ALANA, the African Latino Asian Native American Alliance.

Outside of work, Sheeba mentors at Seattle Girls School, volunteers at Washington Middle School, and is on the Oversight Committee for the Families and Education Levy for Seattle Public Schools.

Teaching Experience
Before coming to Facing the Future, Sheeba worked as an educator for a number of years in the U.S. and abroad. She’s taught ESL and English language arts and developed curricula for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Sheeba began her career as an English as a Second Language, or ESL, teacher through Teach for America in Washington D.C. and taught for several years in D.C., India, and Brooklyn. As an educator in India, she developed and implemented curriculum for middle and high school students on issues related to civic participation. While teaching 6th grade language arts at a charter school in Brooklyn, Sheeba served as a Resident Lead Teacher for K-8 teachers, leading professional development workshops on literacy. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of this school.

Global Perspective
Sheeba has traveled extensively and has lived in Chile and India. She is passionate about encouraging all students to think about the world around them and helping them to develop into global citizens. She is proficient in Spanish and basic Malayalam.

Education

Sheeba has an MEd from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a focus in language and literacy, as well as a BA in International Studies and Spanish from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She also studied social justice, development, and cultural studies at the School for International Training in Chile.
