Throw a Bead Party to Reduce Poverty!
BeadforLife
BeadforLife eradicates extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between impoverished, hard-working Africans and North Americans who want to create a world that works for all. Through the production of handmade jewelry made of paper beads, Ugandan women generate income to lift their families out of poverty. BeadforLife members are women with HIV/AIDS and refugees from the war in Northern Uganda.
North Americans partner with Ugandans by opening their hearts, homes and communities to buy and sell the beads. All profits from BeadforLife are invested in community development projects that, along with income generation, help people escape extreme poverty. This circle of caring and participation enriches us all.
You can partner with BeadforLife and the beaders by throwing a Bead Party in your school. You will not only help women feed their children and send them to school by selling their products, but you will also educate yourself and your friends, parents and community about Uganda and the plight of poor people around the world. If you choose to, you can also see the stories and photos of individual beaders on the website, and write letters to the beaders.
When you sign up for a Bead Party you will get:
• Assorted colorful jewelry
• A DVD with the story of the beaders
• A CD with Ugandan music
• A recipe for Ugandan stew
All the information you will need to plan and host your party.
To sign up to host a Bead Party in your class, please sign up at http://www.beadforlife.com/beadevent.html or contact Patty Manwaring, Community events & Volunteering Coordinaror, by email with questions.
