Help Rural Villagers Build their Communities!
Greenstar

www.greenstar.org

What can you do to help rural villages become self-sufficient? How can you help empower people with the knowledge and technology needed to improve and develop their communities?

Now is your chance to help poor people in rural villages support themselves and build their communities. Here’s how it works.

Small, remote villages in developing countries work with Greenstar to install solar-powered community centers in remote areas. These centers, which the village helps to design and build, provide energy, electricity, purified water, clinic and classroom workspaces, computers, digital cameras and Internet hook-ups. Greenstar sponsors a cultural festival, at which traditional arts, language and music are recorded, and helps the village to develop a set of ‘digital culture’ products that are sold worldwide over the Internet. This income allows the people to participate in the global economy, and to support their ongoing, independent development. To date, there are Greenstar sprojects active in the West Bank, Jamaica, Ghana, India, Brazil, Tibet and South Africa; see samples at www.greenstar.org/media.

Greenstar is constantly looking for new and improved ways to promote the products of the villagers and generate income in rural communities. Once you sign up for this project, Greenstar will contact you with information about the product that they want you to research. They may even send you samples to look at, a marketing plan, or other information they want you to analyze. You will then devise a plan to gather information from your friends, parents, and others. Greenstar will also keep you updated about the projects they are working on and let you know how your research has made a difference in the lives of the villagers.
