Salmon Watcher Program

Help monitor and protect our local salmon!
www.dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/waterres/salmon/index.htm

Age group: Grades 5-12
Geographic area: Greater Lake Washington Watershed

Put your feet in the mud and eyes on the creek – watch salmon behavior in creeks and lakes around Puget Sound. This research will help local city and county organizations preserve salmon by monitoring where the salmon are and what they're doing! King County, in partnership with several cities including Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton, Seattle, and Woodinville, offers creekside training and guidance as you observe these northwest treasures in their local environment. Most observations occur during the fall, when salmon are spawning. Your research will help answer questions such as where salmon are spawning, and what barriers may be keeping salmon from migrating.

Connects to issues: Environment, Biodiversity, Sustainability
