Rotary Boys and Girls Club Arts
Do you have art skills to share with children? The Seattle Rotary Arts Committee needs your help at the Rotary Boys and Girls Club. With the help of Seattle Rotary Arts Committee members, you will provide arts activities for the children attending the club.
December 10: Holiday Shopping
Each year, the Rotary Community Service Committee, in conjunction with the Family and Adult Service Center (FASC), creates a wonderful opportunity for all Rotarians (and friends and students) to take a needy or homeless child on a Holiday shopping outing. All of the children are from the FASC program of homeless (or in transitional housing) parents with children. The idea is simple: students will be paired with a child and with a Rotarian, and will accompany them on a 1-3 hour shopping excursion in downtown Seattle. Typical destinations are Macy's, Old Navy, Nordstrom or other stores that may have what each particular child needs. Rotary members provide the funds and there's a $200 spending limit. The child is picked up and dropped off at the Center, 2013 Third Avenue. Students signing up will be paired with a Rotarian. Driving is not necessary as shopping takes place downtown.
December 22-23: Salvation Army Toys 'n Joy
Students will assist with providing and distributing toys for 7,000 families. Companies encourage employees or private individuals to become involved by purchasing toys through the Salvation Army's “Sharing Trees.” Each “tree” is comprised of 50 cards, which describe a suggested gift for a needy person of specific age and gender. Students will help with the wrapping, sorting and distribution of the toys, which will take place at Qwest Field. Exact hours are to be determined.
