Catalog Canceling Challenge
Save trees, water, energy, and the climate by canceling unwanted sales catalogs!
www.catalogcancelingchallenge.com
Think of all the catalogs that come to your school or home that go straight into the recycling bin. You can help stop this waste and help reduce climate change by saving resources by hosting a Catalog Canceling Challenge at your school.
Organize your challenge with the following steps:
1. Get permission from your school principal to host a challenge.
2. Host a school-wide kick-off event to let other students and teachers in on the challenge.
3. Make sure parents are aware of the challenge by sending home a letter explaining the purpose and importance of the challenge.
4. Create a space in your classroom or around your school where students can stack canceled catalogs.
5. Provide students with a sample script for canceling catalogs. Then take time to practice so everyone is comfortable with canceling catalogs on their own.
6. Organize a competition between classes or grades to see which group in your school can cancel the most unwanted catalogs.
After your 30-day challenge, take it a step further and research how many trees and water and how much energy your class or school has saved. Then make posters or reports to share with students in your school and educate others on the benefits of canceling their unwanted catalogs.
