Washington Middle School, 7th Grade

Students in Lisa Becerra's Language Arts and Social Studies class at Washington Middle School did several Facing the Future activities around global issues. As a culmination of the unit, students, in groups, chose individual service learning projects. The projects included protecting rainforest, raising money and awareness for Washington Toxics Coalition, and supporting an organization that advocates for the protection of animals.

All together, their projects raised $1,900. Lisa says, “They are really excited and proud of themselves.” The students also developed “how to” brochures and websites for other students who want to do service learning projects.
